God. The Power. The Universe.

A couple of times, I have come across criticism of disgruntled Christians who wonder why nonreligious “spiritual” people make statements that personalise the Universe, giving the place of a personal God to an impersonal Universe in their lives. You might as well have come across this trend, with these nonreligious people making such statements as “May the Universe grant you all your wishes”, “The Universe is manifesting all my needs”, or “I align with the Universe…” and other such phrases and statements like these.

The recent criticism I read was online from a Christian who subtly quoted the first chapter and twenty-fifth verse of the Bible book of Romans that speaks of people worshipping and serving created things, rather than the Creator.

Point of correction: people are not worshipping the Universe. No statement implies such of all the statements I have come across in this regard. These people are only acknowledging the Universe because of the knowledge, however deep such knowledge, that the Universe is the ark of God’s Power. God’s Light, God’s Breath, God’s Word, God’s Spirit, and God’s Power stream through the Universe, holding up, sustaining all created things, and giving manifestation to all things that can manifest.

The Universe is our objective temple of the Creator, while our individual selves are the subjective temple. God resides in our bodies as God resides in and out of the Universe. When people venerate and appeal to the Universe, they are doing just as we were told that the Israelites did with the Ark of the Covenant. In the case of the Universe, it is something greater and eternal. The Universe has always been and will always be. Things come in and out of existence in the Universe. The Universe has been here as long as the Uncreated Creator. The Universe is where The Creator exercises His Power to Create Matter, aside from the Wondrous Creations in the Invisible Realms – the Spiritual Realms.

No one sees God. However, we all interact with God’s Power in the Universe and in us!

The Universe houses the Spirit, that creative energy that is the first manifest substance of the Creator. Spirit is the basis of all material things, and without Spirit, nothing can be.

The Universe is a living thing; it is where God lays out the natural laws that oversee the coming into being and going out of existence of all things. The Universe is like a gigantic self-operating apparatus that follows, without deviation, the commands that the Mind of God lay upon it. Therefore, since man is a house for God, created in the image of God, man can lay a command (“request” will be the right word here) upon the Universe. When the request is made, this conscious, self-acting body of power that is the Universe processes the request of the individual and sees how it aligns with the Good Will of God that is in the Universe, and how such request benefits the individual, not just in the now, but also in the future.

Actually, the Universe is a storehouse of power; everything derives its power within it. Creation, destruction, and recreation all happen within it, independent of God’s active involvement because God had set Laws that oversee all happenings. Does this detract the individual from God? Of course, not! Instead, it reminds us of The Invisible Creator Who places us in The Power to carry on The Work set in place from aeons.

The Universe is a Mind; it is intelligent. The Universe breaths, sees, listens, feels, knows, speaks, and has in Its Memory all that has happened in the past, all that is happening in the present, and all that will happen in the future.

The Universe is a rich vast storehouse of wealth containing all material and spiritual resources anyone can think of. Anything you can think of that can be manifested is in the Universe, at least in its raw, sublime, immaterial form, as thought, energy, waiting to be caused to manifest.

All that God gives to humanity for its livelihood and sustainability are all within the Universe. Even all spiritual blessings are contained within it.

The Ancient Egyptians viewed the Universe as a woman, carrying all life forms in her being. God is the Mind that inseminates the Womb of this Universal Mother with the Creative Thoughts GOD releases, causing into manifestation the galaxies, stars, planets, and all natural phenomena we have come to know today.

When Paul had a conversation with the Stoic philosophers of Athens who had erected an altar to the unknown God, Paul made some statements of Truth which religious people, especially Christians, will do well to note and meditate on. In that seventeenth chapter of the book of Acts, Paul painted a broad picture of man’s relationship with God. First, he said, God does not live in temples made with hands, that is, God does not live in churches, shrines, temples, or mosques. These are places made with human hands and can never contain or house God. Is it not strange that while God does not find buildings comfortable to dwell in, God deposits Himself into the being of every individual so that God is easily found by the one who goes into him or herself? Next, Paul told the philosophers that God does not need anything from humans, as though our material or immaterial offerings are enough to sustain God. Finally, he told the philosophers what is arguably the most profound statement Paul ever made. A statement that is like a mantra in the mouths of many people: in God, we live, move, and have our being. While the statement, on the one hand, speaks of our dependence upon God, on the other hand, it paints a vast image of God. God is not just an old-looking man clad in white and sitting all day upon a cloudy seat. God and all that God contains fill the Universe.

Imagine God as an Ocean and us as aquatic life. Imagine God as a house and us as tenants. Imagine God as the Universe and us as universal beings having a relationship with this God day in and day out.

Next time you hear these people speak of the Universe in terms as they should of God, do not be quick to judge. Allow yourself to reflect.

I was one of those who never felt comfortable when the universe was personalized. This piece is sufficiently expository. Thank you.

I used that term “Universe” for a friend, then I in turn became skeptical on his behalf for using it. Shortly after that, I came in contact with this eye-opener.

In the penultimate paragraph of this great piece, I got everything so crystal clear; all that you’ve being explaining since. Thank you for sharing your depth of thoughts on this wise.
